Harvey Finally Goes Head-To-Head With 2010 Rivals At Monza
Published: March 8, 2010

Jack's 2010 season finally gets under way in earnest this week (March 9 & 10) as he heads to the first official Formula BMW test of the year at Monza in Italy, where he will go up against the rest of the field for the first time.

The test has been a long time in coming for Racing Steps Foundation racer Jack, who has been training harder than ever before to be ready for the campaign ahead. A series of private tests at the tail end of last year and a couple of outings before the championship February testing ban came into force has left him hungry to find out where he will sit against the rest of the field, with the number one slot being his primary aim.

Both myself and the Fortec team have worked incredibly hard over the winter and we've set some really good times and occasionally gone up against a few of the guys I'll be against this year,” said Jack prior to heading out to the Italian Grand Prix venue. “However, it's not until you finally go up against the entire grid at the official tests that you know just how much the hard work has paid off.”

Monza was a circuit that produced one of the highlights to the BRDC Rising Star's debut car racing season last year, with him claiming one of his pole-positions at the September event and he is keen to carry on his front-running form from the moment the Formula BMW Europe grid hits the tarmac.

I want to be the fastest and be the bench-mark for everyone to beat this year,” he admits. “I've been training so hard over the winter and I have that year of experience behind me now and I aim to go out and push from the moment the pit-lane opens at every event, just like I used to when I raced in karts,” he added.

Despite the early start to the season, Jack is aware that it will be a long season and he's all set for the long haul and knows it won't be until the first race weekend, at Barcelona in May, where he'll really know how fast he is against his rivals.

There is always an element of uncertainty when you look at the timing screens during testing as people can be trying different set-ups and you never know who is on new tyres or things like that. It will be the opening qualifying session at Barcelona where we'll know whether the hard work has paid off or not, but in the meantime, I'm going to make sure I'm still pushing as hard as possible to give myself the best chance of going for the title this season,” he added.
