Final Straight For Harvey At Monza Showdown
Published: September 5, 2010

Lincolnshire racer Jack Harvey heads into the final and most important race meeting of the year next weekend as he aims to become the 2010 Formula BMW Europe Series Champion.

The Racing Steps Foundation supported driving ace stands just seven points clear at the top of the standings and he knows that a double victory around the high-speed Monza circuit will be the best way to seal the BMW crown. Despite a frustrating previous round in Belgium, Jack will be going out to Italy with the sole intention of making the top step of the podium twice over the course of the weekend.

I'm going over to Monza with the aim to win both races, it's really the best option for me to seal the championship,” says Jack. “We need to go out and do the same things we've been doing all season long and make a return to the top step of the podium,” he adds.

Jack has lead the series since the opening round back in May and up until the previous round had over twenty points in hand over his only title rival, Robin Frijns. However, a frustrating weekend in Spa, with only a single podium finish, means that he now needs to push as hard as possible in each of the last two races. With a maximum of 62 points available at Monza, 30 for a race win and a point for each pole position, it could be a winner-takes-all weekend coming up.

It was definitely a tough weekend in Belgium,” he admits. “Although, it could have been a lot worse. I scored another podium result and a fourth place. I could have failed to finish both races and scored no points at all.

As it stands, the worst I can finish now is second in the championship, but I'm definitely not going out to Monza to drive a percentage game, I'm going out to win both races. I need to finish ahead of Robin all weekend.

We raced there last year and I took pole position, so we should arrive with a great set-up and good pace, the rest will be down to what we can do on track over the course of the weekend, but I'm up for the battle. I've taken each event one at a time and I'm going into the final meeting leading the championship and able to win my first car title and I don't plan on doing anything different now,” he adds.

Jack will take to the circuit for free practice and qualifying on Friday, before the first race takes place on Saturday, with the second and final race of the year taking place before the Italian Grand Prix at 8:30 on Sunday morning.
